Looking for Love
No Dead Time

So? A funny and true-to-life tale of two frustrated, urban 20-somethings looking for love and finding nothing but horror stories … until they meet each other, of course. Unlike most stories in this genre, the connection between record-store clerk Nozomi and office techhead Seth doesn’t occur until the end. By that point, you’ve come to really like these characters and want them to get together because they’re good for each other. It’s oddly satisfying to see that they’re both smart enough to recognize a good thing. Grade: A-The Intimates #1

Wildstorm, 32 pages, color, $2.95
So? Teens as superheroes has been done to death, but rarely with angst this real. Casey goes against the decompression grain that dominates most superhero comics and packs this premiere issue with tons of detail, lots of character, and a pretty minimal plot. The result is an enjoyably odd experience that's surprisingly a lot like being back in high school. Between Casey’s bottom-of-the-page news "scroll," Camuncoli’s art and the overall design of the comic to look like the sort of slick, trendy magazine today’s teens might actually want to read, this is a real fun change of pace. It's unclear what this title might be like 6 issues down the road, but if Casey finds enough interesting stories, large or small, this could pan out into a great book. Grade: B+
