McFarlane's Comic-Con Hat Trick
In case you missed the teaser at Comic-Con, McFarlane Productions has posted the trailer for "Spawn: The Animation" at Spawn.com. Even though it uses mostly text and still images, these key frames are enough to excite the average fan. Followers of the HBO Animation produced "Spawn" (1997) series will connect instantly with the heavy shadows and claustrophobic alleyways. Todd McFarlane is currently casting voice actors while IDT/Film Roman polishes the storyboards before sending them to Korea for animation.
If you missed the trailer, then you probably missed Napoleon too. McFarlane toys brought in actor Jon Heder to sign limited edition promo plates featuring the "Napoleon in Prom Suit" figure. The Napoleon Dynamite line will feature five 6-inch figures (Kip and Pedro get sculpts too) and a 12-incher of prom suited-and-booted Napoleon. Now you can have Napoleon dance to Jamiroquai at the comfort of your office desk. Tether ball anyone?
McFarlane Comics also ushered in the new creative team behind the revamped Spawn for signings and photo opps. David Hine (District X, Daredevil: Redemption) takes over writing duties with Phillip Tan (Uncanny X-Men, Iron Man) handling pencils. Tan is only the fourth artist to pencil Spawn behind McFarlane, Greg Capullo and current artist Angel Medina. Long-time colorist Brian Haberlin gets bumped up to editor to oversee the new storyline. Expect big things from this team when they kick-off their gig with issue #150 with variant covers from Tan, McFarlane, Capullo and Jim Lee.
