Marvel Recalls "Iron Man"
The film rights to Iron Man have reverted to Marvel after New Line's option to develop the project expired. New Line had spent two years developing the project, with director Nick Cassavetes in talks at one point to helm the project. The studio announced a deal with Cassavetes that turned out to be not so. Marvel Studios chief Avi Arad says Marvel will consider its options for developing the picture. Marvel announced a few months ago a 10-picture slate it has secured financing to produce itself. That deal was for 10 specific projects, and the company could raise its own funds separate from that deal to produce the pic in-house, or it may go with another studio if it finds the right partner.
NEW NO. 2: In other Marvel movie news, the studio has hired Michael Helfant as president and chief operating officer. Helfant, who ankled the COO post at Beacon to take the job, will be oversee production and business affairs while Arad continues to run the creative side.
IN BRIEF: Paramount has optioned Charles Burns' just-collected graphic novel "Black Hole." The highly anticipated pic "Superman Returns" will debut an Imax version day and date with the regular release. Writer Mark Millar announced on his message board that he will take a six-month break from comics to recover from an ongoing illness.

Iron Man was and still is my favorite Marvel character...as a kid i loved his suit, his moral fiber, and his ability to give all of his soul to try and make the world a better place...He has a dark side and an anti-authority stance at times, when he believes his way is the right way..I hope the folks at Marvel don't turn him into just another robo-cop clone...He deserves respect if for no other reason that kids who are now adults learned what a hero can be from Iron Man...I know i did...I read all his books...he was a friend who stopped the bad guys and helped people of all walks of life..poor..rich..it didn't matter "There was Iron Man!".........ps Thanks guys!.......Bruce Joyner,Smyrna..Ga.

I shudder to think how horrid a poorly done Iron Man pic could be ... not just from a special effects standpoint, but from a soul of the character standpoint. I haven't read IM in years ... well, decades. But in the late '70s and throughout much of the '80s, Tony and Rhodey were among my favorite teams. Flawed, but more noble for that.
