Singer-Cruise pic won't delay return of Superman

Tom Cruise will star in Bryan Singer's recently announced, untitled World War II thriller for United Artists. Pic will shoot this summer, leaving Singer free to start shooting his sequel to "Superman Returns" next March.

Interestingly enough, the announcement of the project last week lead to some interesting speculation. Over at Moviehole, it was speculated that WB, unhappy with the performance of "Superman Returns," was instead going to forego a sequel and instead proceed with Superman headlining recently announced plans for a Justice League movie.

So it was that in this week's announcement of Cruise joining the cast of Singer's new film that Variety's Michael Fleming reports Singer, who is in pre-production on his sequel to "Superman Returns," has time to shoot this new pic before lensing on the sequel begins next March for a release in 2009.
