"Tsotsi" helmer set for "Wolverine"

Weaponx Fox has set Gavin Hood to direct "Wolverine," with a start date set for November for a release next year.

Born in South Africa, Hood is best known for directing "Tsotsi," which won the best foreign-language film Oscar in 2006.

Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine in the pic, which will reportedly at least partially adapt the Weapon X storyline written and drawn in 1991 by Barry Windsor-Smith. The script by David Benioff has long been rumored to include the William Stryker character played by Brian Cox in "X2." In that film, Stryker was in charge of the operation that gave Wolverine his claws, a plot point that deviates from the comic.

Jackman also will produce, along with his Seed Prods. partner John Palermo and "X-Men" trilogy producer Lauren Shuler-Donner.
