Boom! nabs Pixar, Becker and Baldwin

Pixar Boom! Studios has struck a deal with Disney Publishing Worldwide to publish original comics based on the popular Pixar properties. Comics will feature “Toy Story,” “Finding Nemo” and “Wall-E,” as well as a comicbook version of “The Incredibles” to be written by Boom! editor in chief Mark Waid with covers by “DC: The New Frontier” artist Darwyn Cooke.

Boom! also will publish the first comicbook from Walt Becker, director of the films “Van Wilder” and “Wild Hogs.” Becker’s sci-fi series is called “Last Reign: Kings of War,” and will be written by Michael Alan Nelson.

It also has a project created by actor Stephen Baldwin titled “The Remnant.” Baldwin and Andrew Cosby, creator of the Sci Fi series “Eureka,” are writing the series, and Baldwin is set to sign at the publisher’s booth at Comic-Con.

In other Boom! Studios news, the company has launched a webcomics initiative offering free access to some of the company’s top titles.

Comments

The convergence of comics and movies is interesting and generating some fascinating properties like Dark Knight and the upcoming Watchmen. Hope my fave http://www.pyramidsofmars.com makes the same jump.

I just love the mythology of the pyramids of mars. Come on, how cinematic is that?!?
