Credit rating agency: SAG strike would have limited impact on media conglomerates

Fitch_logoGlobal credit rating agency Fitch Ratings says the potential impact of a SAG strike on the credit profiles of major networks, studios, exhibitors and broadcast affiliates would be "limited" over a six-to-nine-month period. From the release: "Many of the sub-sectors that rely on SAG-related content (broadcast networks and film studios) are housed within highly diversified media conglomerates" but notes, "A SAG strike would have a more immediate impact than the WGA strike." The document also includes more detailed analysis as to how a SAG strike might impact CBS, Disney, Time Warner, News Corp. and Viacom. [Business Wire]

Major studios now shooting in LA? Find one.

Transformers2bw0The only ones now in production are Michael Bay's "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen;" another sequel (actually, prequel), Ron Howard's "Angels & Demons," is now in production at Sony. And that, writes Richard Verrier, is about it. He points to the ongoing possibility of a SAG strike as the reason for the 10% dropoff from this time last year; IATSE business agent Ed Brown says the decline would be greater if it weren't for local TV productions and the smaller-budget films that have signed SAG agreements allowing them to film.
