TCA: "Battlestar Galatica" minisodes on the way from Sci Fi
To your Web battle stations, "Battlestar Galactica" fans. Sci Fi Channel confirmed Sunday during its TCA sesh that it will launch an eight-week series of Web mini-sodes leading in to the rest of the series' fourth and final season. The two-to-three minute shorts are set to bow in October as a preamble to the Nov. 24 debut of "Battlestar Galactica: Razor," described as a special extended seg that will lay the foundation for the events that take place in the second half of mothership "Galactica" season. Can't say I'm a rabid fan of the new-model "Galactica" (one of these days I will catch up with it on DVD and see what all the buzz is about, if for no other reason than I've 
always loved Edward James Olmos) so I'm gonna defer to the Sci Fi press verbiage describe what exactly goes on in the minisodes and "Razor":
These shorts will provide a sneak peek into the original Cylon War, when a young pilot named William Adama (Nico Cortez) discovers a dangerous Cylon weapon that will come back to haunt him and his crew 40 years later. Filmed as part of the extended episode, the mini-sodes will be included in the unrated Universal Home Video release of Razor. They will also be available on SCIFI.COM after their on-air debuts. Battlestar Galactica: Razor will tell the story of Lee Adama's (Jamie Bamber, pictured above left) first mission as commander of the Battlestar Pegasus and will reveal the story of how Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes, pictured right) served her ship during the original Cylon attack on the Colonies.
Sounds like good fun for the fans.

In the razor flashback an external shot of BSG is shown. some of it,s external armour is missing as it is missing 40 years later in the second cylon war. As i understood it the armour was removed at this time becouse of defence cuts (armour to be reused on other battlestars)and because the decommissioned ship would not need it.
So why is the armour missing 40 years earlier. surely the producers did,nt forget to have the armour cgi,d in.

Even if you don't want to put in the time to watch the miniseries (and I think you should start with that rather then season 1 btw) watch the first episode of the first season '33'. It encompasses just about all of what is best about TV drama in 47 minutes. I didn't find BSG until midway through the first season and was dragged kicking and screaming in by my friends but '33' did it, so I highly recommend it.

Like Jinxie, I had memories of the original Battlestar being very corny, and as a result I openly mocked my friends who were pulled in by the new Battlestar for the entirety of the first and second seasons. Plus, I've never liked science fiction that much. Finally one of them loaned me his S1 DVD set and said, "shut up and watch, and if you still hate it, THEN you can say whatever you want."
To put it plainly: this is the best show on television. Yes, it takes place in outer space. Yes, the ships can travel faster than light. After that, it's not really science fiction at all, but an allegorical character drama, and one that has defied nearly every opportunity to bow to Hollywood predictability. The biggest mistake one can make is look back to the original series and what they know about shows like "Stargate" or "Babylon 5" and think they know what they'd get from the new Battlestar. The show is singular, and more often than not, it is brilliant.

Thanks for the info. And the by way, you REALLY should do yourself a favor and watch Battlestar Galactica. It took me forever to overcome my skepticism - I never watched the old show but remembered the extreme cheesiness (and that ridiculous name!). I also don't watch a lot of sci-fi. But I couldn't get away from the show and finally got my hands on the Season 1 DVD to see what all the fuss was about.
In short, it changed my television life. It's my favorite show ever. EVER. It's so good, and all my friends are now obsessed as well. We are total fanboy and fangirl geeks now...It's a little scary. Now I wander the earth in search of new converts. :)
