David Letterman: A stand-up guy
This is why David Letterman is a more moral and honorable person than Sarah Palin ever will be.
He felt bad -- really bad -- after letting loose with a bad joke while doing his job as a latenight comedian and host. He apologized. She led hate-mongering rallies of people calling for the head of her political opponent while doing her job last fall -- in between shopping sprees.
From Tuesday's "Late Show with David Letterman":
"Top 10 Things Overhead at the 'Fire David Letterman' Rally" (click here for the clip)
No. 10 -- David who?
No. 9 -- "Well, it was nice of CBS to provide the catering."
No. 8 -- "We should have done this years ago."

Variety's Team TV -- Cynthia Littleton, Stu Levine, Jon Weisman, Andrew Wallenstein and A.J. Marechal -- provides a roundup of stories big and small, as well as opinions and analysis from across the TV dial.

He only apologized after great criticism against him. That is not noble, that is just placating the crowd. A noble jesture would be if he apologized the next day. This is admitting he is wrong because he was caught.

Oh, what a marvelous example of balanced media objectivity this is! A late-night comedian's sick "joke" about the statutory rape of a 14-year-old (the only Palin daughter who was actually in attendance at the recent Yankee game)is benignly described as "doing his job." Meanwhile an elected state governor and VP nominee is characterized as leading "hate-mongering rallies of people calling for the head of her political opponent." Compare any portion of any transcript of any Palin campaign speech with Lettermen's vulgar "joke." This biased comparison bears little resemblance to reality.
And if it hadn't taken Letterman a full week to issue a real apology, this would have blown over much earlier.

If you've seen footage of the couple dozen who gathered for the Fire Dave Rally, you'll see ugly, hate-mongering people calling for the head of Letterman.
