Suddenly faced with a lot more hours to fill, NBC picks up more episodes of several series

 As NBC races to fill the programming void left by the “Jay Leno Show” mess, the network has picked up additional episodes of several series.

Dramas “Trauma” (left), “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: SVU” have all received orders of at least two or three segs more.

And on the comedy side, critically acclaimed but little-seen Thursday 8 p.m. duo “Community” and “Parks and Recreation” have been handed more eps. “Community” will produce three more episodes, while “Parks and Rec” has received an additional order for two more segs.

NBC had already ordered more than the traditional 22 episodes for “The Office” and “30 Rock.”

Peacock continues to figure out its midseason, post-Winter Olympics programming plans. With “Leno” no longer on the air at 10 p.m. beginning in March, NBC has already announced a new schedule to fill the void. That included more hours of “Law & Order” and “SVU” on the sked, as well as a more permanent spot for “Trauma.” Peacock originally had just six episodes of “Trauma” left.

The “Trauma” order reps another rebound for the show, which originally hadn’t been given a back nine order -- and was expected to disappear after its initial 13-episode run. But NBC later picked up three more segs, bringing the order up to 16; now, that number moves closer to 18 or 19.
