"Family Guy" to end season with hour-long "Empire Strikes Back" special

Fox has scheduled "Family Guy's" hour-long take on "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" for Sunday, May 23 at 9 p.m.

"Something, Something, Something, Dark Side," (trailer above) the sequel to "Family Guy's" first "Star Wars" parody ("Blue Harvest"), was released on DVD in December. The May airing reps the episode's broadcast premiere -- and will also double as "Family Guy's" season finale.

Here's the official description of the episode:

The story of The Empire Strikes Back is retold. Darth Vader (Stewie) is hunting the rebel Luke Skywalker (Chris) and his troops relentlessly across the galaxy. On the ice planet Hoth, Luke has a vision of his late mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (Herbert), telling him to go to the Dagobah system to learn the ways of the Force under Jedi Master Yoda (Carl). Meanwhile Princess Leia (Lois) finds herself taking a shine to the scruffy pilot Han Solo (Peter) and, against all odds, the two soon fall in love. But an encounter with Han’s old friend Lando Calrissian (Mort) lands them in the clutches of the Empire. Envisioning this, Luke chooses to forgo his Jedi training to save his friends. It all comes to a head in a climactic confrontation with Darth Vader himself…

Fox sent its finale dates to affiliates on Thursday; most come during the traditional final week of May sweeps (including a two-hour "24" exit on Monday, May 24 - and of course, "American Idol" on Wednesday, May 26). "Glee," meanwhile, will push slightly into summer -- airing its finale on June 8 (thanks to its late return, in April).

Anyone else read Daniel's post in comic book guys voice?

Hey Daniel, read again:

"Something, Something, Something, Dark Side," (trailer above) the sequel to "Family Guy's" first "Star Wars" parody ("Blue Harvest"), was released on DVD in December.

The post DID say "Something Something" was released in December. You misread it.

Daniel M. Gallagher

Wrong, Blue Harvest has been on DVD since 2008. Something Something Something Darkside, the "special" they will air in May is what came out on DVD in December, meaning most fans have already seen it and won't bother with the edited on air version.
