Jeanie Bradley: Sony Pictures TV loses its constant

Jeanie Bradley, one of the longest-serving execs at Sony Pictures TV, will be leaving the Culver City lot as part of the company-wide layoffs Sony initiated this month.

Bradley, who most recently served as exec veep of programming, is one of the most respected creative execs in biz. "Beloved" is how colleagues often describe her. "Heartbreaking" was the reaction to the news Tuesday that her position has been eliminated. It's part and parcel of the trend of studios and nets X-ing out current programming departments as a cost-cutting move (which may prove to be an exercise in cutting off noses to spite faces).

Bradley has been with the studio since the Columbia Pictures TV days, and with Norman Lear's Tandem TAT banner before that. She's helped shepherd everything from "Who's the Boss" to "Damages" and dozens and dozens of shows in between. By all accounts, she's a class act who has impeccable relationships with writers, producers, directors and other execs.

Through the various exec regimes at Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures TV over the past 30-plus years, Bradley was the constant, the experienced, steady hand whose contributions were immeasurable, and very likely, irreplaceable.
