"Parenthood": Monday's DGA screening

hosted by NBC was a nice, low-key event. Minka Kelly of "Friday Night Lights" fame was there, looking fabulous and showing the love to "FNL" and "Parenthood" boss Jason Katims. Katims noted in his brief introductory remarks that it was so nice of NBC "to program the Olympics around the 'Parenthood' promos."

Post screening update: I've now seen the pilot three times, and there are two spots where it gets me every time as it takes a sharp turn from being engaging in its plot development to raw displays of emotion, in moments well played by Lauren Graham and Peter Krause. I'm told the subsequent episodes of "Parenthood" are even richer, because they don't have all that pilot work to do. Can't wait.

After all the lumps, self-inflicted and otherwise, that NBC has taken in the past year or so, "Parenthood" is a show the Peacock can be proud of. Let's hope enough people tune in Tuesdays at 10, starting March 2, to give it a fighting chance.
