PILOTS: CBS enlists Rob Riggle, while Sarah Chalke elected to ABC's "Freshmen"

RiggleCBS has given a pilot greenlight to "Team Spitz," a comedy pilot starring "Daily Show" alum Rob Riggle.

"Team Spitz" stars Riggle as a bombastic high school football coach. Bill Martin and Mike Schiff wrote the pilot and are exec producing; Peter Principato and Paul Young are also exec producers, as are Tantamount's Eric and Kim Tannenbaum.

Sony Pictures TV is behind the show, while CBS TV Studios has also been given a co-production credit.

A real-life Marine Corps Reserve major, Riggle's credits also include "Step Brothers" and "Saturday Night Live." CBS has been looking to find a vehicle for Riggle for some time; the comedian first signed a talent deal with the Eye in 2008.

Also on Wednesday, former "Scrubs" star Sarah Chalke is back at the Alphabet net, having been cast in ABC's comedy pilot "Freshmen."

Sarah-chalke  Chalke will play a freshman Congresswoman on the show, which revolves around a group of politicos who live together in a Washington, D.C. house. Chalke's character, "Jane," is a former businesswoman who won her seat in a landslide -- but isn't as lucky in her personal life.

Greg Malins is the writer/exec producer on "Freshmen," which comes from 20th Century Fox TV, while Arianna Huffington is also EP.

Chalke's credits also include "Roseanne," where she was famously the show's second Becky, and the longform "Maneater."
