"The Rockford Files": Dermot Mulroney gets the case

Dermotmulroney NBC has found its Jim Rockford.

Dermot Mulroney has been cast in the Peacock's remake of the 1970s gumshoe drama that originally starred the incomparable James Garner. We know NBC and Universal Media Studios went through just about every appropriate leading man available to find the perfect thesp for the role -- there's mighty big shoes to fill, after all. Names that had been rumored included "Friday Night Light's" Kyle Chandler and Thomas Haden Church.

But the gig went to Mulroney, known for such pics as "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "About Schmidt."

"House" creator-exec producer David Shore is spearheading the "Rockford" redo for U and Steve Carell's Carousel Television banner.
