Will CBS' Alex O'Loughlin man crush finally pay off?

Alex-tvguide2When CBS and honcho Leslie Moonves fall in love with an actor, they really fall in love with an actor.

Lately, CBS execs have had a big ol' man crush on Alex O'Loughlin (not surprising, I suppose -- word on the street is the dude is pretty good looking, and knows how to act as well). And they won't stop until O'Loughlin is the star of a hit TV show.

Moonves knows a thing or two about being tenacious with talent he believes in. Remember that guy George Clooney? Small-time actor with a few sitcom credits ("Facts of Life," "Roseanne") and plenty of busted pilots to his name. Moonves eventually cast him in "E.R." And, well, he's now George Clooney.

More recently, Simon Baker topped CBS' favorites list. When "The Guardian" didn't pan out, the Eye was right back with "The Mentalist" -- and Baker's now not going anywhere.

With Baker accounted for, enter O'Loughlin. "Moonlight" didn't last long -- perhaps a bit ahead of its time, missing the whole vampire explosion by a year or two. This year's "Three Rivers" wound up being dammed.

But now, O'Loughlin has been cast in what could be the role of his career: Det. Steve McGarrett, in CBS' "Hawaii Five-O" redux. Eye execs have been anxious to revive "Hawaii Five-O" for years -- and now it's up to O'Loughlin to bring the show to life.

Alex oloughlin is HOT!!!!!

Elle

I was mildly interested in the remake at first, but this casting news pretty much killed it completely. I will probably check out an episode or two, assuming it actually makes the fall lineup, but I've just been completely unimpressed with this guy's previous work. I confess I am mystified as to why CBS won't let it go. Does he have dirt on Moonves or what?

Alex O'Loughlin is amazingly talented and will no doubt be awesome in this role, and his fans all know he rocks at playing a cop because we have all seen him as Det. Kevin Hiatt on The Shield! Trust me, Alex knows how to do tough badazz cop guy and be smokin hot sexy guy while doin it!

Alex O'Loughlin will do his best to bring Hawaii Five-O to life, IF CBS does their part, too. Like hiring the best writers and showrunners. They'll have an instant hit only with terrific story writing and character development. Alex is charming, talented, not to mention extremely talented ... he will ROCK in this role! Bring it on, baby!

Alex O'Loughlin is a talented , brilliant actor as well as handsome. I think that the role he will be portraying as Detective McGarrett will fit him to a T , and I also know that he will be a star. I loved him ,and his acting skills on Moonlight, and on Tree Rivers .
He deserves to be recognized for the talented actor he is. Thank you CBS

Moonlight ahead of it's time??? IT WAS AN 'ANGEL' RIPOFF SHOW. get over yourselves already Moonlight fans, the show was a rip and this dude isnt a star. Unlike David Boreanaz, who Moonlight wanted Alex to be. check out a real star and watch him on 'Bones' or buy the Angel Dvds.....ahead of it's time....hahaha, i laugh at lame suggestions.

Alex O'Loughlin, extremely talented, intelligent and charismatic, portraying Detective McGarrett will be perfect and brilliant on Hawaii Five O. He deserves a successful and long running crime drama series on CBS. I believe that Alex has what it takes to be a mega-star, especially with his romantic comedy film "The Back Up Plan" co-starring with Jennifer Lopez premiering on April 23, 2010.

Indeed, I think this is the role that will get Alex worldwide recognition. Those of us that are fans know that he is not only handsome, but an extremely gifted actor. Moonlight, as stated here was way ahead of its time, plus there were internal problems with the series that had nothing to do with Alex's acting abilities. Three Rivers lacked character development, was aired in a very difficult night and was never shown at the specified time. Then, there were the beginning episode switches that confused viewers.
Alex deserves this chance and I think that he will prove to the unbelievers that he has talent and that one day soon, he will be a superstar!
