Now's your chance to tell the FCC what you think of Comcast's NBC acquisition

Fccpublicnotice
Wanna submit your thoughts on the Comcast acquisition of NBC? ("I approve, but only if Comcast promises to renew 'Chuck'" -- I'm sure the FCC would love to receive stacks of comments in that vein.) Want to send in your thoughts on why this merger shouldn't happen?

The FCC has now put out its request for public comment on the proposed deal. The public notice -- "COMMISSION SEEKS COMMENT ON APPLICATIONS OF COMCAST CORPORATION, GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, AND NBC UNIVERSAL, INC., TO ASSIGN AND TRANSFER CONTROL OF FCC LICENSES" -- can be found here.

Comments or petitions to deny must be filed by May 3, while responses to comments or oppositions must be filed by June 2. Replies to those responses or oppositions must then be filed by June 17.

By the way, here's how the FCC summarizes how the new company will be set up:

GE, which is currently the majority owner of NBCU, would contribute all of NBCU’s businesses to the Joint Venture. These businesses include NBCU’s two broadcast television networks (NBC and Telemundo), its 26 local owned-and-operated broadcast television stations, several national cable programming networks, a motion picture studio, international theme park businesses and online content businesses.

Comcast would contribute its regional sports networks, other programming networks, and certain online businesses, as well as certain other assets used primarily in those businesses, to the Joint Venture. Comcast would not contribute its cable systems, its wireless holdings, or certain of its other online assets, such as Comcast.net and Fancast. The Joint Venture would be 51 percent owned by Comcast, 49 percent owned by GE, and managed by Comcast. It would take the NBCU name.
