Showtime's 'The Big C' debut set for Aug. 16

Showtime is giving new Laura Linney series “The Big C” a post-“Weeds” timeslot. Laura_Linney-1

Dark comedy about a woman who receives a terminal cancer diagnosis will premiere Aug. 16 at 10:30 p.m., following the sixth-season premiere of “Weeds.” Oliver Platt and Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe also co-star in the series that will run Mondays.

Also making its premiere in summer is “The Real L Word,” inspired by the cabler’s gay drama “The L Word,” which ran for six seasons before bowing out in March 2009. Shifting from scripted to reality, “The Real L Word” — set to premiere 10 p.m. June 20 — will follow a group of Los Angeles lesbians.
Skein is produced by “L Word” creator Ilene Chaiken and Magical Elves.

On the comedy side, “The Green Room With Paul Provenza” launches 10:30 p.m. June 10, right after the season-eight debut of “Penn & Teller: Bullshit!” In “Green Room,” Provenza will chat up other comics about topical issues in the comedy world.

Guests include Roseanne Barr, Sandra Bernhard, Eddie Izzard, Paul Mooney, Bob Saget and Jonathan Winters.
