EXCLUSIVE: 'Damages' creators sign deal with Sony TV

"Damages" creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler have signed an exclusive two-year deal with Sony Pictures Television.Damages11

Their KZK Prods. will continue to be based in New York. Trio is waiting to hear whether the Glenn Close starrer will return for a fourth season.

The third season finale of the Sony-produced drama aired April 19. FX is expected to make its decision in the next few weeks. DirecTV has flirted with the idea of partnering with FX on the show, similar to the deal it has with NBC and "Friday Night Lights," but the financial arrangement would have to be right.

Kessler told Daily Variety if an arrangement can be made for a fourth season, the exec producers wouldn't have any difficulty putting a storyline in motion.

"We originally planned out five or six seasons between Patty (Close) and Ellen (Rose Byrne), about the relationship between mentor and protege," he said.

Zelman added that he and his colleagues have ideas for other shows going forward if "Damages" isn't renewed, and they would consider pursuing a comedy as well.

"We're taking meetings about what we really want to do next," he said. "There's no lack of ideas but we have to choose where we want to put our energy."

"Damages" was twice nominated for the drama series Emmy and Close won the lead actress trophy the past two years for her work on the show.

In addition to writing "Damages," the trio have also helmed several episodes.
