Syfy adapts Brit hit "Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)"
Cabler has given a pilot order to the updated project, from ITV Studios. Josh Bycel ("Scrubs") and Jonathan Fener ("American Dad") are writing the show and will exec produce.
Also attached as an exec producer is Jaffe/Braunstein Entertainment's Howard Braunstein ("The Memory Keeper's Daughter).
"Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)" centered on a cop killed in the line of duty -- Hopkirk -- who then returns as a ghost to resume assisting his partner (Randall, natch) in fighting crime.
"Josh and Jonathan have found a great way to update the buddy-cop formula with a supernatural twist," said Syfy original programming exec VP Mark Stern.
The original "Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)" was created by Dennis Spooner and starred Mike Pratt and Kenneth Cope as the duo. ITV ran 26 episodes between 1968 and 1969.
A remake starring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer ran for two cycles on BBC1 in 2000 and 2001.

Variety's Team TV -- Cynthia Littleton, Stu Levine, Jon Weisman, Andrew Wallenstein and A.J. Marechal -- provides a roundup of stories big and small, as well as opinions and analysis from across the TV dial.
