TBS buys Emmy campaign ads for Conan's 'Tonight Show' stint
This may be the first time a network has taken out Emmy ads in support of another network's former show.
TBS, in yet another gesture of goodwill toward its new marquee star Conan O'Brien, has put together two different "For Your Consideration" ads in support of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien," which aired on NBC from June 1, 2009 to January 22, 2010.
“Conan’s great work in 2009 and 2010 deserves Emmy consideration. We’re very excited to have him join TBS later this year," said Turner Ent. Networks prexy Steve Koonin.
The TBS ads actually don't ever mention "The Tonight Show," but just focus on O'Brien.
NBC isn't taking out Emmy ads for O'Brien, but instead is promoting "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." (It isn't taking ads out for "The Jay Leno Show" either.) The situation could lead to the unusual case of two "Tonight Shows" being nominated -- or O'Brien's defunct "Tonight Show" being nommed and Leno's current "Tonight Show" not getting a nom.
