Fox joins Stand Up To Cancer telethon brigade
Fox has joined the multitude of networks that are once again teaming up to simulcast the Stand Up To Cancer telethon, which will return to the air Sept. 10.
ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC will be joined by Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, Style, TV One and VH1 in broadcasting the telethon, which will air live at 8 p.m. Eastern (7 p.m. Central) and delayed at 8 p.m. Pacific.
"We’re delighted that the entertainment community is banding together in such a big way to help us get that word out,” said Laura Ziskin, the Stand Up to Cancer founding member who returns as exec producer.
Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams will co-anchor the hour of live entertainment and appeals, which in 2008 included James Taylor, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna and Fergie among others, along with celebrities stricken by cancer, such as Christina Applegate, Sheryl Crow, Lance Armstrong and the late Patrick Swayze.
During tonight's broadcast of baseball's All-Star Game, Fox will air a public service announcement featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and co-created by MLB and Stand Up to Cancer. MLB was the first donor to sign up with Stand Up to Cancer, with an initial contribution of $10 million.

Variety's Team TV -- Cynthia Littleton, Stu Levine, Jon Weisman, Andrew Wallenstein and A.J. Marechal -- provides a roundup of stories big and small, as well as opinions and analysis from across the TV dial.
