FX has renewed "Sons of Anarchy" for a fourth season, giving the show a 13-episode order.

Renewal comes as "Sons of Anarchy" continues to score high with viewers, averaging 4.9 million viewers and 3.9 million adults 18-49 viewers in its first-run, primary telecast. (Across multiple airings, the show's audience jumps up to 8.6 million viewers.)

FX Networks prexy/GM John Landgraf announced the pickup on Thursday.

“Sons of Anarchy is the most popular show FX has ever had, and the #1 series in basic cable for our key demographic. It is also one of the best, most original series on television,” Landgraf said.

Kurt Sutter is the creator and exec producer behind "Sons of Anarchy," which is currently in its third season. Show, which has eight episodes to go this year, airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m.

FX Prods. and Fox 21 are the studios behind "Sons of Anarchy." Sutter exec produces with John and Art Linson.

Sutter expressed his pleasure with the news via Twitter, in the outspoken way for which he's become known:
