HBO has given third-season renewals to half-hour comedies “Eastbound & Down” and “Bored to Death,” continuing the pay cabler’s streak of picking up shows for extended seasons. Net gave drama “Boardwalk Empire” a second season the day after the Sept. 19 premiere.
“Eastbound,” starring Danny McBride as a washed up Major League baseball player, airs at 10:30 Sunday nights, following the 10 p.m. showing of “Bored to Death.” Show is averaging 1.2 million viewers for its initial episode every week, and just shy of 5 million when tallying all weeklong telecasts.
Jason Schwartzman toplines “Bored to Death” as a writer turned detective. Series, which is performing slightly lower than “Eastbound,” was created by exec producer Jonathan Ames.
