"Modern Family" snapped up by Fox O&Os
"Modern Family" is banking more mega bucks for 20th Century Fox now that the studio's syndie division has cut a deal with key Fox O&O stations for off-net rights to the show beginning in the fall of 2013.
The ABC laffer, which earned the best comedy Emmy for its frosh season, has been scooped up after spirited bidding among local stations by Fox O&Os in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, among other major markets.
"Modern Family" previously struck an off-net cable deal with USA Network for a whopping $1.4 million per seg. Segs will air concurrently on USA and Fox O&Os starting in 2013.
The purchase adds more firepower to Fox's coming sitcom lineup, which also includes CBS' "The Big Bang Theory," starting in 2011.
