ABC gets 'Mortified' with new comedy project

Mortified

Exclusive: ABC's looking to turn the quirky stage show "Mortified" into a primetime sitcom.

"Mortified" is the creation of David Nadelberg, who started recruiting performers, both professional and amateur, to dig through their childhood diaries and journals to share the most embarrassing, cringe-inducing memories from their youth.

The stage show eventually spawned a website and a series of books.

Mark Rizzo, who worked on last year's stab at adapting "Heathers" (another project about awkward teens) for Fox, is on board to turn "Mortified" into a comedy as exec producer and writer.

Nadelberg is on board to consult on the project along with his "Mortified" co-producer, Neil Katcher.

Jamie Tarses and Julia Franz are also exec producing, through their FanFare Prods. label. Sony Pictures TV, where FanFare is based, is the studio.

Rizzo, Katcher and Nadelberg are repped by UTA; Katcher and Nadelberg are also repped by The Gotham Group.
