CBS finds serenity now with Jason Alexander

Exclusive: CBS is looking to get back into the series business with Jason Alexander. It's developing a new project with the "Seinfeld" alum.

Alexander last starred in the Eye's short-lived 2005 laffer "Listen Up." But this time, he's getting a bit more dramatic.

CBS has given a script order to an untitled hourlong that would star and be exec produced by Alexander.

Thesp would play a former TV star who's down on his luck and winds up joining his ex-wife's detective agency. Once there, the character reinvents himself as an investigator with a penchant for disguise.

Simon Barry is the writer and co-exec producer, while Carol Yumkas is a producer. CBS TV Studios is behind the project.

Alexander has been busy supplying voices for animated series including "American Dad," "The Cleveland Show," "Fairly Odd Parents" and "Fish Hooks."

He's also been seen frequently on the Eye. Besides playing sports radio host Tony Kleinman on "Listen Up," he also guested on "Criminal Minds" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" opposite former "Seinfeld" castmate Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Alexander has also recurred as himself on Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm." And he has directed episodes of series including "'Til Death," "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Criminal Minds."
