Apple: Don’t forget about us this week!

Apple doesn’t attend CES. But it sure hates to be ignored during the fun.
 

The company today announced that 3 billion apps have been downloaded from the App store since its launch in July 2008. That’s 1 billion more apps than the company announced on Sept. 28 of last year – a huge surge.

Gizmodo did some of the math. That works out to 30,612,244 apps per day, 1,275,510 per hour, 121,043 per minute or 350 per second.

Of course, it’s not just CES that’s making Apple speak up. Google will unveil its entry in the smart phone category today – one that owners can use with any phone network they want to, rather than being restricted to a single carrier.
