It was bound to happen: A smartphone film contest

Given the growing megapixel count and video capabilities of smartphones, it was only a matter of time before we saw a filmmaking competition around the device. Now Cinequest and SanDisk have teamed up to create one.  

20 filmmakers from Cinequest’s 20^th anniversary film festival are competing in the inaugural event, vying for $5,000.

The general public will act as judge and jury – voting on whichever entry they think should win. Two people will get T-Moibile Mytouch 3G smart phones, while 24 runners up will get an 8GB SanDisk mobile memory card.

The films were made using a video-capable mobile phone around the theme “Discover”.  (Entrants can be found at http://www.youtube.com/sandisk.) Voting lasts until Feb. 16.
