Filming underway on Will Wright’s TV pilot
Will Wright conquered the video game world with titles such
as “Sim City” and “The Sims”. Now he’s looking to take on television.
Wright, who left Electronic Arts last year to dedicate his attentions to his Stupid Fun Club, has begun shooting a pilot episode for a new program for Current TV. The details haven’t been released, but there’s ample speculation this could be “The Creation Project,” which relies on user-created stories from episode to episode.
That would fit into Wright’s wheelhouse. The most engaging parts of “The Sims” and “Spore” were the user-created pieces that became part of the game. Wright fell in love with the idea of user-generated content after seeing the explosion of creativity “The Sims” brought forth. He has cited it as the one of the driving forces when he was dreaming up “Spore”.
But it’s hardly a sure bet. As a game developer, Wright regularly surprised players by thinking of things from a different direction. His take on programming will likely do the same.
