Warner's online on-demand arm to distribute select Sony films

Sony is leveraging the online distribution arm of Warner Bros. to build the audience for some of its unheralded classics.

Starting today, the Warner Archive Collection will add 150 on-demand titles from the Sony catalog, including "Genghis Khan," "A Song To Remember" and "A Study In Terror".

“Our companies share the excitement of offering fans access to even more previously unreleased, hard to find titles all in a single location,” said Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.  “This is yet another exciting opportunity for us to provide even more films to aficionados and collectors, who have voracious appetites for the classics, and who value them for entertainment, historical context and collectability.”

The archive collection is a chance for fans of classic cinema to order films that are not available in stores. It's also a cost-saver for Warner, which doesn't create the DVD until an order is placed. To date, it has amassed a collection of over 1,000 previously unavailable films, short subjects, TV movies and mini-series (including "Earth II" and "Man from Atlantis").
