Sony, DirectTV huddle up on NFL Sunday Ticket
DirectTV's Sunday Ticket is adding something new to its playbook.
The company and Sony have partnered to bring the popular NFL subscription service to the PlayStation 3 – letting subscribers watch the game through their console and giving people who don't subscribe to the satellite company the chance to subscribe without having to hook a dish to their roof.
A subscription will run for $340 for the season for non-subscribers. Existing DirecTV customers can add it to the PS3 for $50 – and use the console as an additional receiver in their homes.
The package offers subscribers up to 14 NFL games each Sunday in full HD, as well as access to DirecTV's Red Zone channel, which shows the final yards of each scoring drive in the league on a single channel.
The PS3 currently has other deals in place that cater to similarly rabid fans of other sports, offering MLB.TV and NHL GameCenter. Microsoft's Xbox 360, meanwhile, offers exclusive live sports programming through an existing relationship with ESPN.
