EA working with UTA on cross-media strategy

Electronic Arts' deals to turn "Dead Space" into a direct-to-dvd/cable movie and comic book are turning out to be harbingers of a trend.

The publishing giant is working with Hollywood agency UTA to expand more of its properties into other media. Already happening: a "My Sims" animated series at Film Roman (which is also making the "Dead Space" film) and a "Mirror's Edge" comic.

Given how much it costs to launch and maintain a new franchise, and to keep up consumer awareness in the years that can pass between game releases, EA is obviously trying to think bigger than games when it invests in a new property.

For the full details on the EA - UTA deal, read Marc Graser's story in today's Daily Variety.
