Scarface 2... another Sierra game killed by Activision Blizzard

Scarface_the_world_is_yours While reporting on EA's "Godfather II" yesterday, I started thinking about other games based on great '70s / early '80s movies. There was Majesco's godawful "Jaws Unleashed," there's Warner Bros. forever-in-development "Dirty Harry" (but still not canceled, WB swears), and there was Vivendi's perfectly decent "Grand Theft Auto" knock-off "Scarface: The World is Yours" (remember fondly by many of us for its innovative "balls meter.")

And then I remembered a story from late last year that fell off my radar after the Activision Blizzard merger was announced: "Scarface 2." As I noted when I first reported on the "Ghostbusters" game last year, a sequel to 2006's "Scarface: the World is Yours," which sold over 2.5 million units worldwide, was in the works. A high level source at Vivendi Games confirmed that for me. I don't know whether Radical, which made the first game, was working on it, or how far into production the game got. Obviously not too far, since it was never announced by Sierra and thus couldn't have been scheduled for any earlier than 2009.

But "Scarface" was not on the very short list of Sierra franchises that Activision Blizzard picked up, which means Tony Montana is now without a videogame home. The rights have reverted back to Universal, which will undoubtedly be looking to find another publisher interested in open-world, drug empire building, hip-hop influenced, non-stop-swearing mayhem. Or perhaps, now that it has started producing videogames with "Wanted," the studio could make "Scarface 2" itself.

In order to make this title, a developer will have to start from scratch which is unlikely. The Scarface producer is currently working with NBC Universal. The game sold in excess of 3.5 million units..It's a shame this title isn't going further.

Scarface the world is yours was a cool game I hope they come out with scareface 2

I still play this game today.

I would purchase a sequel, provided it didn't get changed but improved upon.

We need a good game sequel, not ANOTHER crappy one.

Later, Chico.....

Whether the second part more like a film and include images such as Manolo, Elvira, gine, Frank Lopez ... or be totally different from the film?

It is the goonzu gold which make me very happy these days, my brother says goonzu money is his favorite games gold he likes, he usually buy some goonzu online gold to start his game and most of the time he will win the buy goonzu gold back and give me some cheap goonzu gold to play the game.

What the hell!?!? Scarface The World Is Yours was a beyond bad ass game. It had everything you could want in a game. I've been waiting to here news of another one and will be highly pissed if it never happens. Please let me know if you here anything

Peace

This was a great game, and anybody that liked the GTA games would LOVE this. I've been praying (figuratively) that they would make a sequel to it, and it's hard to believe they haven't/wouldn't, considering how many units it sold. When a game sells 3.5 million units and it's the kind of game that you can easily make a sequel to, especially when that genre is insanely popular, it seems to me that it's a no brainer.

IMO that game was every bit as good if not better than any of the GTA games prior to GTA IV (only because of the engine change), and if they did a sequel using the Euphoria engine and utilizing many the same people that developed the first one, I'm quite sure it would be one of the best games of the year. Heck, I'd buy a sequel in a heartbeat even if they used the exact same engine and graphics that they used to develop the first one for the PS2. Assuming of course that it wasn't done by completely different people.

Please post again if you dig up any further information about the possibility of a sequel, there are a few million people out there anxiously waiting to open their wallets and spend some money. Hard to believe the prospect of a game easily generating $100-$200+ million in revenue isn't enough to justify producing it.

thats stupid scarface didn't copy gta gta copyed scarface if u look at gta vice city that is so lyk scarface with the malibu club and diaz's mansion diaz is just a copy off sosa

Scarface the world is yours was amazing for me being able to talk when you wanted in the true Montana style just blew me away. I want to start a website for fans to get a game made. Scarface 2. loved the original.

Ya Activision Really messed up with this one. It was going to be an industry open World leading game. So many innovations and improvements. It's sad that it's not being done anymore :-(

GTA would have been ready to copy even more stuff than they did from the 1st scarface.

I hope there's hope... I want my "Scarface 2" !!!

thank you

thank you

God I hope somebody does start working on the next one, I really enjoyed the scarface game even though the graphics weren't really great.

The game was indeed in production at Radical, it was less than half done. In order to make this title, a developer will have to start from scratch which is unlikely. The Scarface producer is currently working with NBC Universal. The game sold in excess of 3.5 million units..It's a shame this title isn't going further.

pretty nice
