Sony fanboys starting to resemble Rush Limbaugh

Killzonebox A few years ago I co-wrote a book about how politicians use the tools of public relations to deceive the public without lying called "All the President's Spin." George W. Bush was our primary example, for the simple reason that he was president at the time and an expert at deceiving without lying.

I've never brought it up before because it never seemed relevant (though I will note for anyone interested that's it's available used on Amazon.com for literally one penny; and I promise it's worth more than a penny). But today it seemed relevant when I was reading this piece that has been spreading around the Interweb like wildfire by PSXextreme editor Ben Dutka that epitomizes some of the, ummm, rather rabid response of Playstation 3 fans to any less than stellar reviews of Sony's upcoming action game "Killzone 2."

In particular, Dutka (and many of his commenters) is worked up about this review in Edge Magazine, which had the temerity to say some negative things about the hotly anticipated game and score it a 7 out of 10 (a score that is above average and means the reviewer liked the game, but let's leave that aside). I haven't played the game yet (though I have a copy and am eager to try it soon), so I have no personal beef one way or another with the review. But let's remember, it's a review. There's no way it can be "wrong" unless the reviewer cites factually incorrect evidence or makes indisputably illogical arguments. As far as I can tell, Edge's anonymous reviewer didn't do that.

Nonethelss, Dutka went pretty much ballistic, calling the review a "lie." After writing "All the President's Spin," I was particularly intrigued by these descriptions:

[W]e advise all of you to ignore the desperate-for-attention, we're-going-to-prove-our-elite-status so-called "review" from Edge that has the entire Internet talking...

We all know that ["Killzone 2" developer] Guerilla's title is one of the best FPSs ever made; anyone who knows this industry and has a functioning brain will admit to this...

[Good reviewers] don't lie to the consumer to get some sort of underground "elite cred..."

"[A] bunch of kids with superiority complexes who just want to prove they 'know more' than everyone else...at the expense of the consumer." That, right there, sums up Edge's review.

Notice the language used: "Elite" twice. "Superiority complexes." "Know more than everyone else." And who do these elitist know-it-alls stand in contrast to? All of us, the average consumers, who just "know" (without having played it, in the case of 99% of us) that "Killzone 2" is one of the best games ever.

"Killzone 2" defenders are the regular people, you see, the common folks who know the truth without having to do the research (in this case, playing the game). Those know-it-alls at Edge may have done the research, but the fact that they disagree with us is prima facie evidence that they're elitist snobs who just want to prove they're smarter and know better. They think they're something wrong with the game we like (or are sure we will like). Oh, and did I mention that Edge is British? (OK, Dutka didn't say that, but the fact is out there and you know that Brits think they're so much better than us Americans.)

Anyone who has followed political discourse knows this routine: It's the set of charges that have been used, often to great success, against Democrats for 20-plus years. Every Democratic presidential candidate since at least Dukakis has been called an elitist, a snob, someone trying to impress his friends in the media or in Europe or the coffee shops and colleges.

It's a classic dirty tactic of political discourse: Delegitimize your opponents' views not by engaging them on the issues -- Dutka doesn't once argue with the substance of what Edge said -- but by questioning their motives and associating with with dislikable groups.

Obviously I'm not saying Rush Limbaugh is orchestrating the "Killzone 2" backlash backlash, or that there's really any crossover between Sony fanboys and Republicans (except perhaps the fact that they've both been supporting losing causes for the past few years <thank you folks, I'll be here all night>). But a nasty rhetorical tactic is a nasty rhetorical tactic and it would be great if those of us who write and talk about videogames could do a little better than the bottom of the barrel of political discourse.

(For a more amusing take on hardcore Sony fans' reactions to a positive "Killzone 2" review, check out this rant from X-Play's Adam Sessler)

Dutka is a flaming fanboy and here's the proof:

For those that don't know, Ben Dutka is the editor in chief of PSXtreme. Recently, he has written some of the most fanboy-ish articles in recent memory. Most of them having to do with trying to save the PS3’s face.

For instance, when Dutka became aware that the media was placing the Wii as the home console market leader, followed by the X360 and the PS3 dead last… well old Benny wasn't going to have any of that.

He went on a crazy batshit rampage trying to deny the Wii any relevance with editorials such as this one here:

http://www.psxextreme.com/psp-news/1448.html.

Here are some excerpts from that article written by the editor of PSX Extreme. You tell me if they don’t sound like the typical fanboy rants you find on almost every forum on the net:

“the Wii is not a next-gen gaming platform. It’s a gadget. A toy”--Ben Dutka

and

“…the Wii isn’t really a game platform in this generation”.--Ben Dutka

and there’s more:

“…as a gamer, I don’t own a Wii and probably never will, and the same goes for just about everyone else I know. And to drive the point home even further, everyone I know who isn’t a gamer…owns a Wii”.--Ben Dutka

Basically, in that article Dutka goes out of his way to convince people that the Wii is not and should not be considered competition to the PS3 and x360 and thus should not be even considered a game console.

Which is funny, because on the Wii you can’t do anything but play games on it. You can’t watch DVD’s (officially) or Blu-ray flicks on it. Nor does it try to replace your PC or multimedia system. It just allows you to play games, period. Be it Wii games, GameCube games, WiiWare games or Virtual Console games. That’s about it.

But old Dutka ain’t looking at those facts at all. Because if he did, they would destroy his hidden agenda. That of trying to nullify the Wii and take it out of the picture. So that only the X360 and the PS3 remain. Because in that scenario, finishing second behind the X360 isn’t so bad as finishing in third place. And it would destroy him utterly to see his system of choice (PS3) finishing dead last, while the top spot is taken by machine that uses last-gen technology… oh, the shame.

I mean, Dutka probably has spent many a sleepless nights trying to digest the idea that the Playstation brand went from dominating the world for a whole freakin’ decade, to presently trying to hang on for dear old life. Even Kaz Hirai has been unable to accept that they have lost their place at the top.

So now, Dutka wrote recently another article where he claims that competition is good for the gaming industry. Here’s the article:

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/4495.html

The funny thing about that article, is that Dutka tries to make the point that competition is good and that anybody that rallies behind a particular console is a FANBOY.

He writes:

“You know what eventually happens without competition? Stagnation. The complete and total lack of drive and ambition. Consumers scanning store shelves, desperately searching for something new, or something that can even be considered “innovative.”--Ben Dutka

It’s funny how Dutka contradicts himself on so many levels. Because he tries to convince people that competition is good with that article, but only as long as you don’t count the Wii as part of that competition. Because having the Wii in the arena screws things up for him. To the point that he would need to actively rally behind his console of choice (to prevent it from finishing in third place) and all that effort will probably turn him into the rabid fanboy he ridicules and insults in his very own article. Ironic, eh?

Then he goes on talking about the benefits of having competition that helps the emergence of products that are considered new and innovative by consumers that seek and demand such goods… and yet Dutka fails to realize that the Wii actually supplies that very demand as he himself defined it. The Wii in fact offers something new and innovative to the consumer, regardless if the technology is old and known by only the tech-geeks. To the consumer it’s new and that’s all that matters. Thus you have the high demand for the system for the past 3 years.

Anywhoo, I just wanted to comment on Ben Dutka. Because it amazes me that an editor of a gaming site would lower himself to the level of a poop-spewing machine a.k.a. fanboy.

BTW, Dutka is so desperate to rally behind the lagging PS3 and ignore the Wii, that he wrote this pathetic article. Check out the fanboy-ish title of the article:

“PlayStation 3: Most Discussed Console In Video Game History?”

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/4582.html

The funny thing is…. that that article would be true if you take out the Wii from the Equation. And even then, it’s unlikely that the PS3 would be as popular or discussed as the PS2, PS1, SNES, NES were in their prime. The PS3 hasn’t even reached it’s prime yet. So how does he figure that it would surpass all those consoles in any way?

In conclusion... Dutka is just a clueless fanboy.

chamber

Wow why even bring in politics into this. Lots of Critics especially for movies have always been known as Elitist Snobs, the video game industry is just catching up. While each person is entitled to their opinion i do think at least an eight would have been a fairer score. I don't know Edge's grading system but 7 in 10 point scale in most magazines is just average or almost mediocre. I really do think Killzone 2 has enough to pull it above the rest of the 7's out there. Sometimes when there is so much hype people tend to judge the game by what it lacks or how it did not meet a certain self made expectation rather than just going into it as open as you would any other game.

AAAA

you know who is worst?a person who pretends that he is not biased and trys to cover it ,yet he fails.

can you ask your self why is the when people want to talk about biased reviews they talk about edge and Xplay?(you guys are not well known ,,so they don't mention you guys)

because X-play is virtually 30 min about how great 360 is and how crap wii is and PS3 doesn't have any games (they used the line "ps3 owners FINALLY can spend their games on a game "in atleast 5 of their PS3 reviews in the past 9 months or so).

the problem with edge is that they are not consistent with their review scores .In the same issue they gave tap tap wii(or what ever it's called) 8 out of 10 (which is getting average reviews in 70s).So one wonders why this happened in exact same issue where their only issue with the game was that the story was not deep enough for them.(are you kidding me?FPS this heavy action based usually don't relay on story too much)

and as for you this is all i can say:

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/Sep07/09-19MSNVarietyPR.mspx

i wonder how you could post this article with straight face .

your reviews of PS3 games are not helping the situation in the article above .

Barnabas

Matt, the only thing all these comments prove is that PS3 fans have become a bunch of reactionary assholes.

Brad

I'm a 360 guy, and any credibility that I felt Variety once had has gone down the drain.

This is NOT professional journalism.

oh noes

thank you anon! (couple posts above me)

Derp

And then sony fanboys from around the world attacked the article and author instead of proving it wrong.

matt

Wow you are retarded! This article was a complete waste as is the author. DID YOU READ DUTKA'S EDITORIAL? No you didn't and it's the reason why you are an ignorant prick! Making accusations on Ben is childish at best! I bet you read the first effing line of his post and then said all of this shit about him. Looks like you're just trying to be cool and 'fit in' with this matter. Good try though. But if you take a look at all of the comments here, I'd easily say the majority of them are against YOU!.. asshole.

Joe

@jamie

First, I appreciate that you responded in a civil manner. I respect people who are open to discuss things and challenge ideas (including mine) without resorting to the personal attacks and name calling.

Second, I agree that everybody's entitled to their own point of view. This country is divided about 50-50 right now on an awful lot of political issues, nobody speaks for everybody. I think if you look at my post, I don't claim to speak for everyone. I do believe I speak for many folks, however, who tire of the gratuitous, and I'd argue knee jerk, demonizing of conservative figures. Limbaugh really has nothing to do with the subject matter of this post - it was just a gratuitous dig, I suspect to try to create some buzz about the article. G4TV linked to it, so I guess it worked.

Raz

You smarmy Democrat elitist - how dare you???

An Xbot in dispassionate reviewer's clothing...turn off your cloaking device, you aren't fooling anybody. "Losing causes", my foot. How's the 'new' RROD working out for ya?

dex1

after this article we can expect Variety's review Of Killzone 2 full of nitpicks - metacritic interpretation score 6

Akuma07

FANBOY ALERT! FANBOY ALERT!

I was wondering how long it would take the author to reveal his fanboyism in this article.

then.....BAM! "(except perhaps the fact that they've both been supporting losing causes for the past few years )."

case closssssseeeed people.
enjoy the traffic. you fucking loser.

james

I love how you used the comments to this article before they were even written! ...LOL

That was just brilliant... lol...I rally am laughing out loud. Boom, right away the fanboys proved every single point made and didn't even realize they were putting their foots in their mouths and proving this article 100% correct.

I too give Killzone 2 ( at last the demo ) around a 7/10, just as I would give a big overblown big budget Hollywood Summer blockbuster points off for throwing every tired cliche in the book at you while drowning it in special effects and "B" acting...

Killzone 2 is a big Hollywood Summer blockbuster ( and there is nothing wrong with that)

But please call it what it is....lol.....and fanboys, you were baited, you took the bait and proved him right, now grow up and take your spanking like the acne infused 15 year old nerd I know you can be.

jim bob

while reading this asinine article i was just saying to myself "wait for it, wait for it, this fanboy will reveal himself soon enough", and BAM, there it was "Sony fanboys and Republicans (except perhaps the fact that they've both been supporting losing causes for the past few years)"

case closed! enjoy the traffic though, you've earned it.
and good job on advertising your failed book.

John

To: whoever wrote this article.

It's sad that yr such a fucking retard! Everyone knows that the only fanboys around are xbots, I think this is common knowledge! How can u be a fanboy for liking superior quality ay?? Xboxers will consistently back certain games even though they know it's shit, or even if they dont know it's shit, they are like sheep. Blind leading the blind!! That's the definition of a fanboy!! Sony fans resemble people who like the best of the best, xbox fanboys resemble morons!! I.E. fanboys! And I dont know wht variety is doing even writing about gaming OR fanboys u guys obviously dont have a clue!!

Paul

From the 'reveiwer' (I use that term lightly) who 'reviewed' LittleBigPlanet and seemed to be compltey unaware that the game had 4 player on and offline co-op. H e basically ignored the best thing about the game and instead went out of his way to attack every other aspect including the price of the PS3 which has no place whatsoever in a game review. Strangely a week later when he reviewed Fable 2 he went out of his way to praise the online mode even though he hadnt played it and it wasnt shipping with the game lol

Ben Fritz is a joke. He is without a doubt the biggest 360 fanboy in the entire reviewing community. He is the main reason other reviewers and the gaming community in general see Variety as a joke.

XboxOZ360

Unfortunately there are idiots on both sides of the fence, some more vocal than others. While we are an xbox site, and only publish legit items and press release and reviews plus decent opinion pieces, trying to get some items past on "certain" gaming news portals is like running the gauntlet in the Old Days (do a google for The Gauntlet of the middle ages - ouch !!).

We have 'certain' fanbois rubbishing our articles, or any article from an xbox site even when it is a legitimate news article from a publisher. or if its an original item. Those types of ppl make getting the news and info out extremely difficult, yet they take great joy in forming groups to stop such news getting out from the other platform.

So it certainly doesn't show "gamers" a mature individuals, now does it. Especially when you look at a large % of the comments in here.

ChrisWanker

I looked back to see how Halo3's anti-hype 7/10 review by GamerCritic received a lot of flack from fanboys... And I noticed that INTERESTINGLY none of the Halo3 fanboys blamed Sony Sheep for the review... I repeat NONE!!! Now isn’t that interesting???

So, why is it that Sony Sheep are blaming Xbots for less than desired KZ2 reviews? Your guess is probably better than mine, but I think that it's the "cornered animal" feral instincts kicking in. BaaaBaaaa!

Mark

SONY DEFENSE FORCE ACTIVATE!!!

dan

Whats wrong with you guys?

Conduct yourselves with a little professionalism.

The writer isn't saying the review is right or wrong, if a review can be right or wrong. He is pointing out a sad fact about faboism these days.

Now BEFORE you (generalization) go off the deep and and start saying, oh yeah Xbot defending a MS site etc etc. We review all types of games, and we will be reviewing Killzone 2. We'll ideally be going to the local launch of the game here in Sydney and covering it as we did MGS4.

We reviewed it and gave it the highest score we give on the site, 9.8/10 . . . with a headline of :Metal Gear Solid 4 Review (http://oxcgn.com/2008/06/21/metal-gear-solid-4-review-closest-thing-to-perfect-since-ocarina-of-time/) The closest thing to perfect since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

We do the same for PC, Apple and other titles (review them) if we feel the game warrants it. As almost all the team have one or the other or all of the consoles, both consoles and PC's/Macs.

The difference is, we 'prefer' the Xbox platform for our own personal reasons, but still enjoy gaming as its supposed to be . . as gamers . .

I believe the writer of this piece was trying to point out some of the irrational responses to what is printed these days. And to be honest, I think he has proved that without a shadow of a doubt judging by the often harsh and even foul comments attached to this post article.

Yes, we are an Xbox approved site, but we do NOT pander to MS at all. If MS have done something wrong, then we'll post it, same with Sony or Nifty boy . . MS does NOT throw money at the media, contrary to popular believe, I can attest to that personally. But that doesn't stop our site from saying what we think about Sony or Nintendo games or Apple or PC games.

There are fanbois on both sides of the fence, and simply preferring one thing over another does not make one a fanboi . but carrying on like some lunatic certainly does.

Plus the fact that game scores these days have gotten right out of hand, where even an 8.5 is tantamount to blasphemy and the reviewer given bad rep on just about any forum willing to take a comment.

Thing is, scores of 7-8 are (or used to be) considered very good, while scores of 7-9 were well above average and the 10, well that was rarely dished out unless something extraordinary came along. Which is why we do not give out a perfect 10/10. As there is always, without exception, something amiss in every game,no matter WHO puts it out.

Now publishers look at what they could get from their games score wise, and some actually stop production on games if they believe the game will ONLY score a 8.5 . . as they know it will not get the sales it may well deserve. There's been a few of late that have suffered that fate - sadly. as that means there's several less games we as gamers get to play.

And neither side is losing . . If one was to actually sit down and look over the games lists that are coming to both platforms, each is getting a huge amount of games in 2009. So if you only have one platform, you will get a bucket load of games, if you have more than one, then you'll get more.

God, there's over 134 (http://oxcgn.com/2009/01/30/oxcgn-lists-125-games-for-the-360-in-09/) games noted that are coming to the 360 this year, without the ones yet to be announced. If someone bothered to take the time, they could amaze a similar listing for the PS3 . . if they took the time. No, they are not all exclusives, but that is not the point.

The point is, they are GAMES coming to the 360 platform during 2009. Yet 'some' fanbois will use that as an example or ridicule it in some way . . which is exactly what the writer in this article is getting at . . . fanboism . . . it's the curse of gaming, and it has exploded exponentially since 2005 on all platforms.

I know asking ppl to wake up and grow up is an impossible thing these days, but in all honesty, if we seriously want the gaming industry to be taken serious by the general public and main stream media, then we should act something resembling mature individuals . . .

Oh, for those of you that didn't read this but commented on it, I rest my case.

saminseattle

Theirs fanboys on both sides, ignorant and wise, but none-the-less fanboys. Soooo, I dont understand why you wrote an article about it? Either way the Killzone2 demo was awesome , and the only people complaining are the ones who thought the game was going to be the almighty , legendary , 100/10 GOTY, shooter. When in reality its a very good , high-quality, fun all around shooter.< nothing short of very good.

ur1dot

stop attacking playstation owners.they are owners and not fanboys like you idiot.xbot!go cry to ms for your xbox360 with the rrod.edge is full of xbots like this site. fact!

Jamie

Ben, I think I may have been hasty replying in the manner I did. Looking back through the article, it's clear you meant the Brit's comment to made in jest.
I guess I lost my sense of humour before I turned on my PC.(bad day at the office)
please accept my apologies, and believe that i thought the article was well written with a well observed point.
Regards Jamie

Midwest

Joe: it's a simple point. You're free to believe whatever ideology you want. Just don't assume you speak for everyone.

Felix Gonzales

Holy shit what has fathoms unleashed

David Hilton

Great read and sensible points. Of course you're going to get that fanboy hate, but free-thinking people should applaud your willingness to point out where illogical arguments are made.

Zinc

Yes Sony fans, the best way to refute an article describing the frothing irrationality of some Sony fans is by...frothing at the mouth and screaming "XBOT" at everything in sight.

Iroquois Pliskin

Holy christ, this whole comment thread is batshit crazy.

For the record, this blog ain't no joke and Ben Fritz looks alright to me.

Joe

@ Midwest

You apparently disagree with me so you attack me personally and with profanity, not by explaining your point of view. I think it was Ben Fritz who once said "It's a classic dirty tactic of political discourse: Delegitimize your opponents' views not by engaging them on the issues..." The irony is delicious.

In Midwest

Joe: I'm one of those people in between the coasts. And you're a fucking moron.

Justin

Wow. You people are all reasons nobody should ever read message boards. You're giant giant losers. And yes, irrational fanboys.

bibliotechnician

To 911 gaming below:

I do get it. You have somehow tied the success of a VIDEOGAME to your self image. It’s pathetic, really. So I could care less if Edge gave your mom a 7.0, let alone Halo 3 or GTA4 a 10 (and yet, tragically, she only deserves a 2.0). My point was that these AAA titles -- from either Microsoft or Sony -- are often overrated. That's it. I'm not defending the history of Edge's reviews, just that maybe, just maybe, KZ2 is not the end all be all of gaming. Now go back to your room and wait for mommy to bring you some milk, loser.

Joe

I like Rush Limbaugh. He is both a talented entertainer, and an insightful political analyst. I suspect that many people who go out of their way to invoke him as the boogyman (presumably to prove their liberal bona fides) have never actually listened to his show. Here's a challenge: Turn on the show for a few days, Mr. Fritz, and open your mind. At a minimum, you might learn something about perspectives held by many Americans occupying the vast expanse beyond the limits of NYC, LA and Chicago.

Malik

Sorry, but your position falters with citing "Edge" as your example as that review posted for "Killzone 2" is terrible. Nowhere did they provide proficient analysis as to why it was a "7 out of 10" game. About 1/3 of the article is either complaining about a lackluster story of the fact that Rico is like Cole Train from Gears of War, ignoring the fact that Rico existed in two games PRIOR to Gears of War coming out and that neither is a particularly new or interesting character.

Also, a point to note for the future, an opinion isn't valid by virtue of itself. If it doesn't have anything to sustain it, then it is worthless. Just saying something is "bad" and calling it a day is not a worthwhile review and for anyone who is looking for SOME type of substance in a review would most likely declare something for shallow and intellectually lazy a "wrong" review.

NebulaDog

Good grief. This is wonderful. Well-kicked that hornets' nest, Mr Fritz.

*dons flak-jacket, unfolds deckchair*

Gamer20

Dear Mr. Fritz,

After reading your LittleBigPlanet review, I have to say that there is no way you could be independent, fair, and unbiased. Just because you are entitled to an opinion does not mean anyone has to agree with it or accept it.

I also have to question why you went out on a limb to make sweeping generalizations about a group of people? Fanboys are fanboys, their behavior is expected. To shift the argument to the victims and not look at the cause is simply ignorant.

Rush Limbaugh said he wanted Obama to fail. After reading this article, it is apparent that you want the ps3 to fail, so in reality, who is the Rush Limbaugh of gaming?

Oh and yeah, the MSN deal has NOTHING to do with the content of this article, or this website. And MS is gonna give out Windows 7 for free.

teets

Edge seems to be alone with their opinion of Killzone 2. How sad to be so alone.

Ben, I agree with your assessment. Except the article should be titled "Sony fanboy resembles Rush Limbaugh". That title is truer to the contents of the article.

Eric

Is anyone out there living in reality? A REVIEW SCORE is entirely OPINION. 5 out of 8-- there I just rated the font on this site. 12 out of 43, there, I just rated the Diet Pepsi I'm drinking. Again, a review is the OPINION of the game of one person (or group of people). You're still allowed to believe it's TEH BEST GAME EVAR, even if they don't.

I'm excited to play KZ2, but you all just need to settle down.

PS-- Please follow with many "ratings" of my sucky post. I will have lost my faith in the internet if this doesn't happen.

Odacom

Great idea Ben
Step 1: Bash fanboys which will cause a traffic spike.
Step 2:?
Step 3: Profit
And to the brainiac that whines about his comment being deleted, if you swear you post will be deleted, read the TOS.

Those looking to make a link to the MSN and Variety collusion, there are way more Sony products being advertised in the paper than M$ but I know the newspaper is way out of your income bracket so you wouldn't know that.

Dave

To Dan below, have you considered that there's a reason a line like that wouldn't show up in an xbox 360 review other than that the majority of professional gaming journalists are biased towards one system? (which is a ludacrais idea)

Perhaps x-play made that remark is because there's some truth to it. I agree that it's harsh considering the ps3 has recently become a much more viable console. However there hasn't been many must have exclusives lately (besides metal gear) and perhaps that was sesslers way of poking fun at it.

Ben

While true on some points, this seems too much of pointing fingers at one side. This is what fanboys are like. Adam Sessler of X-Play said it best. He addressed BOTH sides. Yet you failed to even mention what some of the Xbox fanboys said. Fanboys are fanboys and just because the Xbox fanboys don't have something to complain about now, don't mean they won't later. So stop acting like this is just Sony fanboys, this is the nature of fanboys in general. It doesn't help when you keep adding fuel to the fire with some of the comments you made.

Axion

Is this were we meet up for the Sony fanclub party? I don't think I got the email that said we should come here and write nasty comments.

Dan

Just another member of the Xbox centric gaming media pretending there is no bias out there in favor of the Xbox 360. Just pretending that there is no reason these evil "PS3 fanboys" keep getting so mad.

Has anyone seen the first line from X-play's Killzone 2 review?

"Good news PS3 fanboys, you finally have something to spend your money on other than Heavenly Sword action figures, and anti-depressants".

Does any grown adult really think that line would show up in an Xbox 360 review? Haha, right.

Microsoft has the gaming press wrapped around their little finger these days, like a poodle on a leash. Ben Fritz and Adam Sessler can keep pretending they're fair minded all they want. Their behavior says otherwise.

P.S. Ben, let us know when you get around to trying out Killzone 2. I'm sure you've just been in a huge hurry, right? Har har.

Ben Fritz

Jamie I definitely was being sarcastic about the Brits thing. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Everyone else is welcome to their opinions, but FYI the fact that MSN used to distribute Variety news does not mean Microsoft "owns" Variety. We have a strict separation between editorial and advertising/business. Though for what it's worth, I've seen Sony advertise plenty of times with us in the past.

David Macphail

A 360 fanboy website gives a PS3 game a suspiciously low score and then you morons WONDER why there's a backlash???

Don't you think the exact same thing would've happened if PSU.com reviewed "Halo 3" and gave it a 7???

Edge's review proves only one thing......fanboyism IS rampant in the gaming media, which is unfortunate.

LudwigK

The tragic thing is that almost all of this backlash has been prompted by the SEVEN, not Edge's analysis (which is quite favorable and not too dissimilar from views expressed in numerous other -- and GOOD -- reviews).

911 Gaming

I think I should make this clear: you suck.
I was going to write about how dumb your article was and compare Xbots to Democrats, but; you would know all about that. Spreading around the lies, segregation and seclusion, lying, as well as hypocritical manifestation is a huge Democratic surplus of which you have just conceived. I hope you live with your naughty Xbox 360 when Microsoft RRODs' it because its within one and a half years of launch with the new update. Read their business ethics. Its all over the internet; forcing people to get off of XP or they will carpet bomb and virus up your computer until your data is so stolen the only thing left on your desk is a box full of parts. Its like a dictatorship in Communism, and I'm tired of it.
