Red Pearl Kitchen has heard the bitching. Owners Tim & Liza Goodell have hired Tyson Ophaso from Chinatown Brasserie in NYC as the new "corporate chef for the Domaine Restaurant Group starting immediately."
The new Red Pearl menu is described as "South East Asian Street Food." Translation: Dim-summy stuff and Random Things That Sold Well on the Last Menu like moo shu chicken and scallion pancake along with a few noodle and Thai curry dishes.
According to the press release, Ophaso and his former restaurant "garnered press raves from the New York Times and New York Magazine."
In truth, the NYT and NY Mag gave Ophaso's former restaurant decent but not great reviews of one star each. (NY Mag: "If you’re looking for a decent approximation of a certain kind of American Chinese meal, however, you could do an awful lot worse.")
