David Lynch, iron chef

"I don't cook, but I had this recipe for quinoa. And cooking shows are very popular. So I thought I'd do a cooking thing."

-- David Lynch, filmmaker and coffee salesman, on why his DVD extras for "Inland Empire" includes footage of him cooking quinoa [MTV.com]

A cup of David Lynch; Ca'Brea Ca'Burned

Davidlynch * David Lynch is a human percolator. And he's willing to prove it. The man who invented chainsmoking coffee (the moment he drains one large latte, an assistant slides over another) is getting into the coffee business. David Lynch Signature Cup Coffee is available "soon" (he told The Knife) at Whole Foods Markets and at select theaters where he's self-distributing his new movie, "Inland Empire."

* I don't care who you are, you're not getting a reservation: Driving past Ca'Brea last night, it seemed awfully quiet. Turns out they had an electrical fire and they're out of business until "the first week of January," according to the message on its answering machine.

ABOUT DANA HARRIS
I'm the editor of Variety.com. I think soggy Caesars are a restaurant’s death rattle.
