A pianist of note
Cinemax will be screening all the Oscar-nominated shorts, one of which, "Two Hands," is a fascinating look at a pianist. "Two Hands" premieres Aug. 2 at 7 p.m.
Cabler's description: The near-mythic story of Leon Fleisher, one of the greatest pianists of our era, who, at the height of his career in 1965, mysteriously lost the ability to play with his right hand. After a period of deep despair, Leon began a 35-year quest to find a cure for his ailment -- reinventing himself along the way, as a teacher, conductor and performer of music written for the left hand only. Now at nearly 80 years old, with the help of a brilliant doctor and an experimental treatment, Leon¹s life has taken a startling turn. "Two Hands" is a tale of triumph and despair and, above all, an undying love for that most transcendent human invention: music. Directed and produced by Nathaniel Kahn ("My Architect") and produced by Susan Rose Behr.
