Maroon 5 announced its first North American headlining tour of arenas Monday morning with a four song performance at the House of Blues in West Hollywood.
The It Won't Be Soon Before Long tour will visit 28 North American cities, including New York's Madison Square Garden on Oct. 10 and L.A.'s Staples Center on No. 8. Tour starts Sept. 29 in Detroit and ends Nov. 10 in las Vegas.Tickets go on sale beginning July 14.
Band is touring in support of its second album, "It Won't Be Soon before Long" (A&M/Octone), which sold 429,000 copies in its first week. Album's cume is just under 1 million.
The Hives will be the opening act; Tuesday, Maroon 5 will open for the Police at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.
"Five or six years ago years ago, Jesse (Carmichael)  and I were asked which act, living or dead, we would want to open for and we both said the Police," lead singer Adam Levine said. "But that wasn't possible then."
Maroon 5 is working with Global Cool to reduce carbon emissions produced by the tour and will donate $1 from each ticket to buy offsets that go toward making the tour carbon neutral.
Maroon 5 performed "Makes Me Wonder," "This Love," "She Will be Loved" and "Back at Your Door" for media and fan club and radio contest winners.
