Beck will be the first performer to appear at Club Nokia in the L.A. Live complex. He will appear at the club, with an expected capacity of around 2,300, on Nov. 10. Tickets go on sale Saturday.
Goldenvoice, which is owned by AEG, is booking the club.

Beck's father, David Campbell, will conduct the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Strings when they back his son Sept. 20 at the Hollywood Bowl. It will  be the first time father and son have shared the stage.
Campbell is an arranger and conductor whose work has been on more than 400 albums.As a performer, he has played on historic sessions with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers and Carole King; his arrangements can be heard on recordings by Paul McCartney, James Taylor, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, the Rolling Stones, Cat Power, The Mars Volta and, of course, on several of Beck's albums.

The more I hear of this new Beck album the more intrigued I get. The thought of pairing Dangermouse with the golden-haired Silverlake native seemed like an ideal scenario (both have roots in hip-hop and both have an uncanny, chameleon-like ability to inhabit a kaleidescope of styles) but the results are every bit as impressive as one might have estimated. Dangermouse may just be Beck's most sympathetic collaborator since Nigel Godrich.

The production on "Orphans" is wide open and airy, with psychedelic guitar flourishes and a deep, plodding bass guitar. Chan Marshall joins Beck for the choruses and breathes some sunlight into the paranoid LSD-fueled trip of the verses. The key to the track is the drum kit -- dirty and dead, snapping and thudding in a ghostly shuffle. Beck plucks his acoustic guitar and carries on with a head-spinning set of lyrics. The whole thing feels like a Mama's and The Papa's acetate, chopped-up and played backwards ... except the vocals are played forwards ... just check out Beck's Ilike page and hear for yourself. 

While we cannot yet confirm the existence of a title or release date for Beck's upcoming album, we can at least confirm that there will be music on it. "Chemtrails," the first track from the singer/songwriter's collaboration with producer Danger Mouse, premiered today on BBC Radio 1, and can now be heard on MySpace and Beck's official website.

Claiming inspiration from late '60s psych-pop, the ethereal quality of Beck's vocals are reminscient of Brian Wilson, kicked up a notch halfway through with a Beta Band-esque guitar riff. Only a minute and thirty seconds long, this sample is barely a taste of whatever aural journey Beck will be taking us (and concert audiences) on this summer, but promises a new and exciting (if not extremely commercial) flavor of pop.
