Buzznet Brings Stereogum and Idolator Under One Roof

Buzznet has acquired music blog Idolator from Gawker Media, fresh on the heels of its acquisition of music aggregator Stereogum.com.
Buzznet says its mission is to  have the web’s largest music community as well as the most robust.  Idolator will continue to maintain its own editorial direction under founding editor Maura Johnston.
Scott Boyd, Buzznet’s general manager, says "This deal also perfectly complements our recent acquisition of Stereogum, the web’s most popular music blog, and will provide Idolator with more resources, enabling Maura to continue building upon the blog’s great success.”
Nick Denton, founder and publisher of Gawker Media said, Buzznet is the "natural acquirer, and will be able to make more of Idolator than we could."

Colbie Caillat Clicks With Folks Who Don''t Buy Music

ColbieColbie Caillat and soul singer Ledisi are outperforming Kanye West's "Graduation,' 50 Cent's "Curtis"and James Blunt in P2P cyberspace, according to the folks who track "swapping." Though what sort of world are we living in in which just about the same number of people are stealing Bruce Springsteen's week-away-from-release album and Universal's 6-year-old Cat Stevens  boxed set?

After the VMAs:What Happens in Vegas...

BritneyThe unspectacular Video Music Awards drove the point that so much of modern music is disposable.
Highlighting songs with the shelf life of bread crumbs, Britney Spears' ill-prepared, lip-synch performance provided the perfect distraction. While Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Foo Fighters will have long careers and make some of pop's most memorable  songs, there's little sense that these will be remembered as classics a decade from now.  Good as Kanye was, there's only one "Jesus Walks"; Timberlake  could get away with remaking "Sexy Back" for his next four albums and fans would probably not notice.
Meanwhile...
While West's performance was one of the better ones on the show, he says he will not appear on the network again. Ever.
Roger Friedman says Britney Spears' horrid performance kills off hopes for significant sales of her Nov. 13 release - and he blames her manager.
Mark Caro come up with advice for other pop tartlets who see the VMAs as a comeback arena.
Time magazine's blogger had a good take on the deterioration of MTV.
Like an episode of "Cops," one scraggly tattooed longhair dude is charged with beating on another scraggly tattooed longhair. Rather than fighting over some crack addict, this gal was pretty.

Henry Rollins: Still Angry

Henry “Tee Offs,” a portion of Henry Rollins' weekly talkshow on IFC, will now be featured on huffingtonpost.com. Arianna Huffington will be a guest on the TV show on Aug. 31. This week, he goes off on how no one can be trusted and even provides a partial list: "Lackeys, Lobbyists, Loyalists, Legislators, Priests, Pastors, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Proselytizers, Globalizers, Think Tankers, World Bankers, Electric Car Killers, Oil Drillers, Intelligent Designers, Climate Change Maligners, Blowhard Neocons and their dittoheaded minions to talk show hosts."
