Indie Stores Celebrate Record Geeks on Mark Volman's 61st Birthday

Flo_eddie_movingtargets_cd  The Coalition of Independent Music Stores has declared April 19 the first Record Store Day to celebrate "the hyper fan and the collector ... (the) special breed of nerd that likes to possess and own."
A collection of stores will simultaneously link and act as one to celebrate the culture and unique place that they occupy in their local communities and nationally.
There will be  special events and the all-important goodie bag. They have a cool website with commentary on record stores and a misspelling of Rosco Gordon's name.
An introductory party for Record Store Day will be held on  March 15 at Waterloo Park in conjunction with the Mess With Texas Party. The 15th is, of course, Sly Stone's birthday. There, the CIMS people will be looking to hook up with potential record store owners who might participate in the event.  (For the non-geek: Volman is a founder of the Turtles and Flo in Flo and Eddie. He has absolutely nothing to do with this event, but there are people out there who track time and space via their record collection and musical events.)

This week's CIMS top 10
1 "Jukebox" - Cat Power
2 "Brighter Than Creations Dark" - Drive-By Truckers
3 "In Rainbows" - Radiohead
4 "Juno" Soundtrack
5 "Unfamiliar Faces" - Matt Costa
6 "Sticks And Stones" - Moe.
7 "In The Future" - Black Mountain
8 "Raising Sand" - Plant/Krauss
9 "Distortion" - Magnetic Fields
10 "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool" - Lupe Fiasco
