Headline writers are known to get carried away at times and Brit music mag NME has a lifetime of headlines that go just a bit too far. Like the claim that Led Zeppelin somehow reunited at a Foo Fighters show. Not exactly. Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones  joined the Foos  to play "Rock 'n' Roll" and "Ramble On." Robert Plant is touring the U.S. with Alison Krauss.   And if you don't believe the story, there is even some "Bigfoot Spotted"-quality footage on their site.

Paul Westerberg tells Pitchfork: "We've been offered... Chris (Mars), he doesn't want to play. He's moved on with his life to the point where he won't move back and do this. So that leaves essentially Tommy (Stinson) and I. I don't think we would go back and use any of the other Replacements guys. We'd probably find someone else. That's what's kept us wondering, the magic question: who's going to come and play the lead guitar? We could dismiss it, like we did on 'Pleased to Meet Me.' That was our fucking 'Let It Bleed,' where I played all the guitar. But I don't know."

U2 is not leaving Universal. Manager Paul McGuinness debunked a foxnews.com story in a correspondence with Hits. U2 has apprently re-upped with UMG for four more albums.

It was a slow news week while I was away traveling to cold climes (N.J., Kansas) and cooking, perhaps, my finest Thanksgiving dinner ever (turkey  plus seven sides with five of the recipes coming from the superb November edition of Bon Appetit). Beyond four days of horrible football results, this also happened:
Led Zeppelin denied the idea of a tour but launched a website.
Bono and the Edge made a surprise appearance at a  charity concert, noted they were working with Rick Rubin and Brian Eno on a new record and would not be in residency at at the O2 Dome.
Jemaine Jackson is holding out hope for a J5 reunion tour in 2008 that would, of course, include brother Michael. But that would also require that Michael not take rumored gigs offered in Asia and/or the Middle East.
And out of rumorland and into official,  James Taylor and Carole King will play six shows in three nights this week at the Troubadour to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary.
