GALECA Announces 2011 Film & TV Winners

The Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association today announced their top choices for the best in film and television of 2011, and the gay romance "Weekend" took top honors over other awards-season favorites like "The Artist" and "The Descendants."

Meryl Streep earned performance of the year for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady," while Michael Fassbender nabbed the Rising Star of the Year honor for his daring performance as a sex addict in "Shame." In the more unusual film categories, the comic drama "50/50," starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young man diagnosed with cancer, was named Unsung Film of the Year, and "The Muppets" took Campy Film of the Year.

GALECA comprises 50 esteemed critics, entertainment journalists and pop-culture critics who work for newspapers, magazines, websites and TV and radio outlets nationwide.
