'No' gets more than a oui bit of Cannes recognition
Those in the know know "No" is a film to watch at Cannes. The Gael Garcia Bernal starrer just won the the Directors' Fortnight Art cinema prize, adding to its say-yes days at the annual fest.
In addition, Merzak Allouache's story of Islamic fundamentaluism ''The Repentant'' won the Europa Cinemas Label for best European film in Directors' Fortnight, and "Camille Rewinds" took the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers' SACD Prize, given to a French-language film.

A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
