King of the Emmy guest contenders: Ed Asner
The two-time Lou Grant is now a four-time contender for a 2012 guest acting Emmy. Ed Asner is submitted for appearances on "Hawaii Five-0" and "Royal Pains" on the drama side, along with "Hot in Cleveland" and "The Middle" in comedy.
No other male actor has more than two Emmy guest submissions this year, though actresses Kate Burton, Megan Mullally, Anika Noni Rose and Mary Steenburgen each have three.

A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
