The comeback of the TV movie, at least on cable, is at the heart of the Variety Road to the Emmys: Movies and Miniseries preview coverage. "Hollywood is not making the type of movies actors and filmmakers like to do," says Rob Sharenow, Lifetime's exec VP of programming. "As a result, big talent is coming back to TV movies."
Accompanying that story are capsules on some of the most noteworthy Emmy contenders in the movies-and-miniseries category.

A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
