Ramos, Salinas and Springsteen honored by academies

Univision news anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas will receive the lifetime achievement award Oct. 1 from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the 33rd annual News and Doc Emmys.

Ramos, who came to the United States as a student in 1983, became a national news anchor in 1986 at age 28, one of the youngest in the history of American television. Salinas began her journalism career in 1981 in her native Los Angeles at KMEX 34, now a Univision affiliate and became a "Noticiero Univision" anchor in 1987, becoming one of the first women in the U.S. to co-anchor a national nightly newscast.

During Grammy week, Bruce Springsteen will be honored by the Recording Academy with its MusiCares honor Feb. 8, two days before the 55th annual Grammys. Christopher Morris has more.

A digitially restored director's cut of David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia" will be screened in celebration of the film's 50th anniversary on July 19 at 7:30 p.m. by the film academy at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
