Road to the Emmys: Reality competition

RPRuPaul is out in front of the Variety Road to the Emmys: Reality Competition section, leading a story about how feel-good series in the genre (such as "Ru Paul's Drag Race") have gained traction.

Among the other reality-competition highlights:

-- How runners-up from competition series are nonetheless finding consolation prizes in new series of their own.

-- Audiences might love their song and dance reality shows, but the TV Academy ... not as much.

-- Many shows have tried to imitate perennial Emmy fave "The Amazing Race."

-- Nine of the most compelling reality-competition figures of the past year of TV.

-- Capsules on numerous contenders in the reality-competition races.
