Oh yes for Ono at L.A. Emmys
ABC7’s David Ono earned two kudos and shared a third at the 64th annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, presented Saturday at the Academy’s Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre.
Los Angeles ABC and NBC stations tied with KTLA with seven awards apiece from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, while Fox Sports West won eight Emmys via its two channels, including Prime Ticket. The jointly owned CBS2 and KCAL combined for five kudos.
Ono won for hard news reporting and programming writing, and was joined by Jeff MacIntyre, Robert Horsting and Michelle Kim for arts and culture/history honors (“Witness: American Heroes”). MacIntyre also won a separate award for top single-cam programming videographer.
NBC4 won for regularly scheduled morning (6 a.m.), daytime (6 p.m.) and evening (11 p.m.) newscasts, as well as live coverage of an unscheduled news event (the tragedy at Seal Beach) and for news special (the death of Osama Bin Laden).
For serious news stories, CBS2’s Paul Magers and Nicollette Medina won in the single-report category (“Rocketdyne”), while KTLA’s Carolyn Costello and Justin Mashouf did the same for multipart reporting (“The Gang Behind the Badge”).
KTLA’s Dave Malkoff earned a kudo for news feature work reporting.
As previously announced, Susan Stratton (above right) was presented with the Governors Award.
A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
